Science management in Ny-Ålesund and Svalbard |

The Ny-Ålesund Science Managers Committee (NySMAC) Research in Ny-Ålesund centers around the independent stations and institutions that are based in the settlement. Increasing activities were causing a need for cooperation and coordination of the scientific efforts, and spurred the idea of establishing the Ny-Ålesund Science Managers Committee (NySMAC). The committee was established in 1994, and has since been meeting twice annually. Members of the committe consist of representatives of the institutions involved in research and services in Ny-Ålesund. Planning of future research, information about existing research, and commenting the overall developments of Ny-Ålesund stands at the core of NySMAC's activities. The Svalbard Science Forum (SSF) The Svalbard Science Forum works as an information and coordination organ for research on the whole of the Svalbard archipelago. The Research Council of Norway (RCN) chairs SSF. The SSF keeps an updated record of infrastructure, logistics, research bases, application processes, and other relevant topics for scientists and research projects coming to Svalbard.
