An official visit by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Franco Frattini found place on 30 April. State Secretary Elisabeth Walaas from Norway represented the Norwegian Ministry. Kings Bay AS hosted the visit.
The Amundsen-Nobile tower was inaugurated during the visit, and there was also a wreath ceremony by the Nobile and Amundsen monuments in memory of the expeditions. Kings Bay AS, and the research stations CNR, NPI and AWIPEV gave presentations to the delegates, before an excursion to the Kongsvegen and Kronebreen glaciers was made in the sunshine during the afternoon.
