Kings Bay AS provides all services such as lodging, food supplies, infrastructure etc. in Ny-Ålesund. You will find the services presented below.

Telecommunications

Ny-Ålesund has standard ISDN- and analogue telephone lines operated by the Norwegian telecommunication company Telenor. Costs for phone calls are based on Norwegian rates. It is important to notice that there is no coverage for mobile telephone networks in Ny-Ålesund, as these are prohibited to use. It is as well important to notice that Ny-Ålesund by the Norwegian authorities is designated to be a radio silent area. This means that all use of wireless equipment is forbidden. Therefore, check with Kings Bay before any use. 

High speed Internet access

Uninett has installed a set of routers in Ny-Ålesund, establishing the second Point-of-Presence on Svalbard. With this installation, the Internet has in fact moved one degree further north! Kings Bay AS, the Norwegian Polar Institute and Alfrew Wegener Institute have already started utilizing the enormous bandwith available to research and education in Ny-Ålesund.

Campus Network

The network connects all institutions and research buildings in Ny-Ålesund with gigabit speeds. All research institutions have access to the network, with the possibility of placing instruments and workstations outside their own buildings while still retaining connections.

Kongsfjordbutikken

At the local store - known as Kongsfjordbutikken - souvenirs, postcards, stamps, film, sweets and some everyday items can be bought. During the months of September to June the store is open twice a week for one hour.
